The secret of happiness
What you do doesn’t really matter. If you stopped doing what you do, the world would not end and the sky would not fall in. You are busy driving yourself to an early grave fulfilling unimportant man made tasks that have no sense, reason or importance.
You don’t create, you don’t make. People don’t need or use what you do nor do they ask for or require it. You are a purposeless blot on an already bloated and disease infested corporate nonsense that they call the world of work.
You’ve created ridiculous concepts such as engagement and being “social” to make up for the fact that you’re actually just wasting your lives in the pointless execution of aimless frippery. None of this is real. Stop fighting it, stop struggling to explain your value and accept that you have none.
That is your first step to happiness.
It’s not me you’re angry with, it’s yourself 🙂
That’s brilliant and the timing was impeccable. I feel like you have just channelled the very important kick up the arse message I was waiting for. I thank you! 🙂
Nothing said here really matters.
This is brilliant stuff, sir.
Buddhist perspectives are not often given their due around these HR blogospherical parts.
An oustanding post.
These principles apply outside of the work world as well. If only people would pay attention to them and just be happy with what they have.
…. insert gun A into slot B and pull trigger C…..
I guess this is the long way of saying “Your job doesn’t define you”?
Can you pass along some of what you are smoking?
For God’s sake, cheer up.
Brilliant.
yeah right.
If your son started playing violent xbox games non stop and gave up on ambition, would you praise his enlightened state of being?
I doubt it.
cheer up man- it might never happen. you might not create_ I do and Im pretty happy
Thank you. That was an uplifting message 🙂
Here is another step to happiness: Nobody cares. Nobody cares what you’re wearing, thinking, doing, agonizing about, because everyone is preoccupied with their own lives. So don’t fret about what other people think of you. They aren’t.
You know what, I may not create or “make a difference” but I support those that do and that makes me happy. :op
How come you were able to put in words the way I feel today? Is there some kind of vibe going around the world? Are you some kind of guru that can feel the pulse of the Earth?
I mean, you put my feelingd into brilliant words.
Thanks.
I think I must be one of the few people who just likes her job. You are right, if I fell under a bus tomorrow morning, people would be slightly inconvenienced for the next 48 hours and then get over it. However, I get up because I love to be here. However, I do go home because you are right, being here ALL the time is useless and something that I know I am going to regret on my deathbed at (somewhere around) the age of 85… 🙂
This is so true. I don’t do shit. I don’t pretend like I do shit. My meaninglessness set me free.
In the same vein, read “Rules for Aging” by Roger Rosenblatt. Review in The Time: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,54448,00.html
So once we accept our fate do we continue to push on in our meaningless journey so we can fund the lifestyle we desire or do we become a social change agent and fight world hunger?
Or do we do our work, screw the engagement part that makes us feel better about our position and use that time to start a hunger campaign on Facebook whilst funding our hedonistic lifestyle and potentially get one step closer to cracking the secret of happiness??
Excellent point.

What is your alternative to work? I believe that God has a purpose for each one of us and until you find your rest in Him you will not be content, fulfilled and have meaning in your life.
What is this? I don’t think being truly happy is not to care. If you care and truly you are happy in what you do. Don’t make HAPPINESS into SELFISHNESS.
